Wray Wilson Retirement

Wray Wilson will retire effective September 30, 2016.  Wray has filled multiple responsibilities for Howick as Public Works Coordinator, Chief Building Official and Drainage Superintendent.  Please join us in celebrating with Wray on October 14, 2016 at the Howick Community Centre.  Follow this link for more information.

Howick Bloomers News

Congratulations to the Howick Bloomers!  They were chosen to receive one of the 150th celebration gardens made possible by the generous donation of tulip bulbs from Vesey’s Bulbs Ltd., and with the collaboration of Canada Post, the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association and the Niagara Parks Commission.  Click here for a complete list of winners.

Economic Development News

Huron Small Business Enterprise Centre is moving to 54 West Street in Goderich in early September. The centre has been housed in the Huron Business Centre in Seaforth for 15 years along with the Huron Business Development Corporation. The centre will now operate within the office of the County of Huron Economic Development Department.

Trees Ordering for 2017

 Maitland Conservation’s Forestry Services are available to all landowners in the Maitland River Watershed.  The program supplies planting stock that will produce conservation related benefits like windbreaks, stream buffers, reforestation and roadside plantings.  For more information, follow this link.

Taxes Due

Tax installment due: September 23, 2016.  We accept post-dated cheques, on-line payments and have a drop box at the municipal office.

The Township of Howick is currently seeking candidates for the following positions: 
Food Booth Attendants and Arena Operators. These are seasonal part time hourly positions reporting directly to the Recreation Facilities Manager.

Adopt-a-Road Pilot Program 
Alana Dickert and Stephanie Reinink are shown here in front of the Adopt-a-Road sign on Lakelet Road with Reeve Versteeg (R), Deputy Reeve Clarkson (second from left) and Councillor Harding (middle) and Sandy Macewen (L), Howick Public Works staff.   The Township congratulates Alana and Stephanie on their enthusiasm to adopt this section of road right-of-way and to keep it clean.  

Recreation News

Howick Turnberry 2016 Fair book is now all ready to be viewed or printed on-line.  Just follow the link to the Howick Agricultural Society web page for information on the  "Scarecrow Invasion" September 30 to October 2, 2016. 

Congratulations Alicia Douglas!  Alicia was crowned ambassador of the 157th Howick Turnberry Fall Fair on September 17.

Road Closing

Huron-Bruce Road will be closed between Belmore Line and Forest Line from August 15th to October 7, 2016. The reason for the closure is to replace a culvert just east of Belmore Line. The project includes the structure replacement including associated road reconstruction work and steelbeam guide rail installation. The Contract has been awarded to Moorefield Excavation Ltd and local access will be maintained at all time for residents and businesses from either the east or the west.
